ROME, Ga. – The USA South Athletic Conference announced its sportsmanship awards for the fall season, as the Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball team earned honors on Tuesday morning.
For each of the conference-sponsored team sports, all team members vote for the teams he/she deemed to have demonstrated the best overall sportsmanship throughout the season. The team garnering the most votes receives that sports' Sportsmanship Award. The institution which wins the most individual sport awards will be presented with the overall USA South Sportsmanship Trophy.
Averett University collected the award for women's soccer, Berea College collected accolades in men's soccer for the second consecutive season, while Greensboro College was honored in football for the third time.
During the 2004-2005 academic year the USA South Student-Athlete Advisory Committee instituted a Conference-wide Sportsmanship Award. The SAAC hopes that by awarding a Sportsmanship Award, the members of the USA South will understand the importance of this issue. It is vital that good sportsmanship be demonstrated in the arena of competition.
