Fighting Squirrels Fall to Averett

STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin women's volleyball team took on Averett at home on Thursday night falling to the Cougars 3-0 (26-24, 25-7, 25-19).

Mary Baldwin drops to 1-27 on the season and 0-12 in the conference, while Averett improves to 15-11 and 12-1 in the USA South.

The Fighting Squirrels were led by Michaela Beverly who tallied 12 kills and five digs. Emma Tomlinson added 30 assists, two service aces, and four digs. Defensively, Madison Cash led the way with a game-high 25 digs. Rachel Christian tallied nine kills and nine digs.

Additionally Deborah Black marked seven kills, two service aces, and six digs.

For the Cougars, they were led by Lauren Montren who dropped 12 kills and 14 digs, while Zamyiah Mangum had 21 digs. Meg Hopkins registered 30 digs, 10 digs, and four kills.

The Fighting Squirrels will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they host Methodist and Meredith for a USA South Tri-Match.
