STAUNTON, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball team hosted a USA South Tri-Match in the Physical Activities Center on Saturday.
The Fighting Squirrels fell to Pfeiffer 3-1 (26-28, 18-25, 25-22, 17-25) in the first match of the day before dropping a 3-1 contest (19-25, 25-19, 24-26, 17-25) to N.C. Wesleyan.
In the first match of the day, Rachel Christian recorded a team-high 17 kills to go with 10 digs, two blocks and three service aces, while Deborah Black registered 13 kills on .345 hitting. Emma Tomlinson finished with a game-high 38 assists and also dropped in four kills, seven digs and a block.
Against the Battling Bishops, Black led the squad with 17 kills to go with five digs, while Christian finished with 13 kills to go with 18 digs. Beverly tallied 12 kills and collected four digs as well. Tomlinson recorded a season-high 42 assists and also finished with 16 digs and two blocks.
Cash finished the match with 28 digs and added a pair of assists. Additionally, Sharon posted 11 digs.
The Fighting Squirrels return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Greensboro.
