SALEM, Va. – The 2019 Maroon Classic continued on Saturday, as the Mary Baldwin University women's volleyball team played two matches on the campus of Roanoke College.
The Fighting Squirrels dropped the first match of the day in 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 17-25) to Hollins before playing Randolph to a 3-1 loss (23-25, 17-25, 22-25, 15-25.
In the first match of the day, MBU was led by Senior Michaela Beverly who had a team high 12 kills on .321 hitting to go along with three digs. Emma Tomlinson added 24 assists and three blocks. Defensively, Madison Cash led the team with 13 digs, one assist and one service ace. Rachel Christian also added eight kills, seven digs, and three service aces.
In the second match of the afternoon, Christian led the team offensively with nine kills and 14 digs. Tomlinson added 25 assists, five digs, and four service aces, while Cash led the team with 24 digs and one service ace.
The Fighting Squirrels will be back in action on September 12, at 7 pm when they travel to Harrisonburg to take on Eastern Mennonite.
