HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Mary Baldwin University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Route 42 Classic, hosted by Eastern Mennonite, on Saturday.
The Fighting Squirrels started the day with a 3-0 win against Bryn Mawr (25-7, 25-15, 25-11) before falling to Wilson, 3-1 (23-25, 24-26, 25-23, 19-25) in a hard fought match up.
In the first match, Rachel Christian led the way offensively with 11 kills and hit at a .391 clip and also added six digs. Deborah Black tallied seven kills on .429 hitting, while Emma Tomlinson recorded eight service aces. She also added a game-high 14 assists.
Defensively, Madison Cash recorded 13 digs, while Tomlinson posted eight.
In the final match of the day, Christian again led the game with 20 kills to go along with 27 digs for her third kill-dig double-double of the weekend. Black tallied 10 kills to go with 11 digs, while Tomlinson recorded four kills, 33 assists and 12 digs. Cash registered 20 digs in the loss.
For her efforts over the weekend, Christian was named to the all-tournament team. Each coaching staff submitted a ballot after each match with a vote for the teams' top players. One member of every school competing in the Route 42 Classic had a representative. The full team is as follows:
