ROME, Ga. – The USA South Athletic Conference volleyball coaches have released their 2019 preseason polls, which was announced on Thursday morning.
Mary Baldwin University gathered eight points and was tabbed ninth in the East.
Defending division and tournament champion Meredith picked up seven first-place votes and 63 points to take the top spot in the East division. Last year's co-divisional champion William Peace tallied the final two first-place votes and totaled 53 points to take second. Averett (50), Methodist (46) and Salem (28) rounded out the top five in the division.
In the West, Covenant garnered five first-place votes and 46 points as it was selected to repeat as divisional champion. Huntington collected two first-place tallies for second, while Maryville received the final first-place vote and is slotted third. Piedmont (30) and LaGrange (28) rounded out the top five.
The Fighting Squirrels start off their 2019 schedule at the Route 42 Classic, hosted by Eastern Mennonite, on August 30 and 31, beginning with a match up with Lynchburg at 3:30 pm.
