Cash, Miller Grab Second Team Nod in the East

ROME Ga. – A pair of Mary Baldwin University softball players earned postseason recognition from the USA South on Thursday afternoon.

Madison Cash and Jordan Miller both claimed second team all-conference laurels in the East division.

Cash, a sophomore from Middlebrook, Virginia, earned second-team honors at DP after finishing the season batting .346 with 28 hits, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored and a pair of doubles. In conference play, Cash elevated her batting average to .367 with 18 hits and a team-best seven RBI. Cash spent most of the season as the team's designated player, but also played second base and entered the circle in five games pitching 16.1 innings.

Miller, a junior outfielder from Grottoes, Virginia, claims second team honors in the East, as well. She played in all 34 games and ended the season batting at a .290 clip with five doubles, 12 runs scored, 12 RBI and a pair of home runs. Inside of league play, Miller's batting average was raised to .295 with 13 total hits, scoring four runs and driving in three.

In addition to the pair of second-team selections, Kayley Turner was selected as the team's representative for the all-sportsmanship team. On the season, she batted .347 with 11 RBI, nine runs scored and totaled 17 hits.

Vada Blue Sherrill of Pfeiffer claimed league Player of the Year laurels, while Katlyn Smith of Maryville picked up Pitcher of the Year from the conference. Brianne Coleman of Salem and Hannah Thompson of Averett claimed the Rookie of the Year categories, while John Brackett of N.C. Wesleyan was voted as the conference's Coach of the Year.

This is the first time in recent history that multiple Fighting Squirrels were named as all-conference performers.
