BREVARD, N.C. – The Mary Baldwin University men's soccer team played to a 3-2 loss in USA South action against Brevard at Ives-Lemel Family Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Fighting Squirrels are now 7-10 on the year with a 4-8 conference record, while the Tornados improve to 5-5-3 overall behind a 5-2-3 league mark.
In the first half, MBU scored first in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Ousmane Dansoko controlled a ball after back-to-back headers from Carr Panetta and Alejandro Aragon to put the Fighting Squirrels ahead early. The score proved to be the lone one of the first half as MBU went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Brevard tied the contest in the 58th minute as Vinicius Giannaccini scored with an assist from Matheus Masukawa, 1-1. At the 71:54 mark, Giannaccini notched his second of the game to give the Tornados a 2-1 lead. Aragon tied the contest for the Fighting Squirrels in the 86th minute, but the Tornados took back the lead just 49 seconds later as Lucas Campos scored the game-winner.
Obdulio Argueta stopped seven shots in the loss, while Patrick Hall made three saves in all 90 minutes.
Brevard held a 22-12 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corners.
The Fighting Squirrels return to action Saturday, Oct. 26, for the regular season finale. MBU hosts Averett at 2 pm.
