ROME, Ga. – After totaling three goals in a pair of games over the weekend, Mary Baldwin University men's soccer player Carr Panetta was named USA South Rookie of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
A native of Cedar Park, Texas, Panetta recorded a pair of goals in a 4-0 win against LaGrange on Saturday. His first goal came before the 10 minute mark of the first half and notched his second with under 20 minutes remaining in the period. On Sunday, Panetta gave the Fighting Squirrels a lead in the 79th minute with a goal before Huntingdon came back for a 5-4 win.
A freshman, Panetta is the first-ever member of the men's soccer program to receive weekly recognition from the USA South. With eight goals on the season, he leads the team and sits in a tie for sixth most in the conference this year.
Panetta and the Fighting Squirrels return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, as they travel to face Piedmont.
