ROME, Ga. – The USA South Athletic Conference men's soccer coaches have released their 2019 preseason poll, which was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Mary Baldwin University, which will compete in the East division of the league, was voted to finish seventh in the East.
Greensboro, the defending division champion, collected five first-place votes and 35 total points to take the top spot in the preseason poll. N.C. Wesleyan grabbed the two remaining first-place votes and 32 total points and is slotted second. Methodist (22), William Peace (22), Pfeiffer (19), Averett (11) and MBU (6) round out the division rankings.
In the West, Covenant received three first-place votes and totaled 33 points to sit atop the division, while defending league champion Maryville was just one point behind in second. Piedmont earned the final first-place vote and sits third with 28 points. Brevard (17), Huntingdon (15), LaGrange (15) and Berea (7) finish out the West.
The Fighting Squirrels are slated to begin their first season competing at the varsity level and are the newest addition to the conference in men's soccer. MBU kicks off the season on Aug. 30 at Shenandoah with a start time of 7 pm and open its conference schedule and its home slate against Maryville on Sept. 14 at 1 pm.
