Lynchburg, VA--The Mary Baldwin University track and field team competed in their final meet of the season on Wednesday at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier, hosted by Liberty University. Schools represented at the meet were a mix of DI, II and III programs, plus post-collegians who impressed with their performances.
For the Fighting Squirrels, it was the distance crew that came through. Each of the 7 runners ran either a PR or season best in her event.
Coach Ely was happy with their races. “To have the whole group step up and run their best times—I was really happy for them. It shows that there is a reward for consistent work and determination. Being better than you were yesterday is what it’s all about. What a great way for these athletes to end their season!”
Other performances of note:
Shari Moody finished 15th in the 200m with a school record 27.24
Stephanie Barbaro broke her own 5000m MBU record by 42 seconds
This was the sixth and final meet of MBU’s inaugural track season. “It’s not been easy to start a program from scratch, but I think it was a great first season for everyone. The coaches are proud of those athletes who were committed to working hard and finished out their season today. We are already talking about improvements and changes for next year.”
Congratulations to the Fighting Squirrels for a successful first season of outdoor track!
