Lexington, VA—The Mary Baldwin University indoor track team competed on Friday and Saturday at the Keydet Invitational, hosted by VMI. There were 17 Division I teams in attendance, including NC State, East Carolina and Virginia Tech.
VMI’s new indoor facility, which includes a hydraulic-banked track, was as impressive as the quality of competition.
This was MBU’s second indoor meet since starting the program this year. The team continues to improve, with five new team records and 11 personal records set. New event records were set in the shot put, 4 x 800 relay, and the distance medley relay.
Coach Ely was encouraged. “It was a tall order to ask them to step on the track with these teams, but I was happy they were able to focus on the task at hand—improving their own performances. Some of them surprised themselves with seeing what they could do, especially after the long holiday break.”
The Squirrels are set to travel back to Roanoke College next weekend for the Finn Pincus Invitational.
