Mary Baldwin has a new winter sport in its lineup. Starting this season, MBU will be competing in indoor track for the first time. The Fighting Squirrels added outdoor track this past spring, so it was a natural fit to include indoor with the university’s sports offerings.
With a full program of cross country, indoor and outdoor track, athletes are now engaged through the year. Practices for indoor began at the end of October, while cross country was still mid-season.
Coach Ely is looking forward to growing the program. “Having all three seasons will benefit the athletes, athletic department, and university in many ways. It’s exciting to help with getting it all off the ground, and Coach Clifton and I are looking forward to seeing where we can take it.”
The first meet of the season is this Saturday, December 2nd at the Bast-Cregger Invitational, hosted by Roanoke College. The remainder of the competition season will continue after the winter break with meets at CNU, VMI, Liberty, and the JDL FastTrack in Winston-Salem, NC.
