Tennis Gains Experience on the Road

The Mary Baldwin University tennis team hit the road over spring break and gained some much needed experience.

On Tuesday, the Fighting Squirrels lost at Lynchburg 0-8.  On Wednesday, the team battled Southern Virginia (0-9) in another non-conference match up while this afternoon the team traveled to Salem College (0-9) for their final match of the week.

Alayah Austin returns this season playing #1 singles and #1 doubles with Saku Ishii.  Saku fills the #2 singles spot.  In their first year with the program, Azaria Marlowe and Esperanza Cadena compete at the #2 doubles position.  The #3 doubles team has been a combination of Jacqueline Cottingham, Shaina Riddle, and Mallory Townsend.  Esperanza Cadena fills the #3 singles position while Azaria Marlowe competes at the 4th spot.  Jacquelyn Cottingham, Shaina Riddle, and Shyonia Wheeler fill the remainder of the ladder.

While the team is still looking for their first set win, Head Coach Paul Yee said this week, "The players are showing good improvement and we need to work for more.  Competing and executing when it counts are areas we are focusing on with the team."
