STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin University basketball team fell to Shenandoah University this afternoon 72-55 in a non-conference matchup.
The Fighting Squirrels struggled offensively in the first quarter. After jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead, the Hornets went on a 13-0 run and took a 17-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
Mary Baldwin answered in the second period scoring 26 points while going 5 for 7 behind the arc. Kaitlyn Crews tallied 11 points in the period while Cauy Duboise added 8.
Mary Baldwin led at the half 33-31.
Shenandoah took control of the game in the third period opening the half with an 18-0 run shooting 67% from the floor.
Mary Baldwin's fourth quarter effort couldn't overcome the deficient.
Shenandoah's balanced scoring attack was led by Jordan Sondrol who tallied 15 points and 16 rebounds. McKenzie Mathis followed with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Mary Baldwin was led by Aayana Nedd with 18 points and 8 boards. Kaitlyn Crews finished the day with 16 points while Cauy Duboise added 10. Teanna Peavy also grabbed 8 rebounds for the Fighting Squirrels.
Mary Baldwin University, 1-6 (0-2 USAS), will return to action on December 30 taking on Southern Virginia University on the road.
